Cill Chua Club Notes

Eoghan Rua Cill Chua Noted W/E 8th October

It’s county final time again in Down and it’s great to be back to compete in our 12th final in a row. We wish our senior players and management all the best in their bid to bring back the Frank O’Hare Cup on Sunday. For those unable to attend, the game will be shown live on TG4.

It was a busy weekend past with the club competing in two county finals and unfortunately coming out the wrong side of the result in both.

Firstly on Saturday our ladies competed in the Senior Championship final for the first time in our history. They came up against the juggernaut that is Bredagh, and they made it 6 titles in a row with a superb performance. The girls and their management deserve great credit for the strides they have made this season, making both league and championship finals, and hopefully they can keep improving and competing for senior success.

Scorers on Saturday in Pairc Esler were: Laura Morgan 1-0, Nicole Johnston 0-3 and Catriona Kane 0-1.

On Sunday the Premier Reserve final took place in Saval, and it was Burren who took home the cup after a 2-9 to 0-13 win, goals proving vital, one in each half.

The magpies didn’t get off to the best start and chased the game from early on, but battled the whole way to the end and were unlucky not to get at least extra time. Inspired by Aidan Branagan and Marty Devlin, the lads can be proud of their championship run with it being a case of so near yet so far. Thanks to the players and management for their efforts this year.

Final scorers were: Marty Devlin 0-9, James McClean 0-2, Cormac O’Reilly 0-1 and Justin Clarke 0-1.

Hard luck to our under 14 girls also who lost to Teconnaught in the championship last week.
